nternet Marketers likes to talk about organic traffic. Bloggers talk about social traffic. The difference is Internet Marketers likes to make money, Bloggers like to make a name. Then there are some who has the best of both worlds. They are Internet Marketers disguised as a blogger who has tons of organic AND social traffic.
I refer to those as “branded bloggers”. As in branded goods like LV or Gucci, whereby the name itself sells, branded bloggers can sell anything just because of their name. For example, if I recommend you an ebook, and Darren Rowse also recommends that same ebook, whose recommendation do you think will carry more weight? If Shoemoney recommends you a make money program, and I do the same, who would make more sales? Why? Simply because they are them and I am me. They are branded, and I am only the cheap imitation. So they earn money from their tens of thousands of social traffic while I have to scrape the crumbs from whatever organic traffic I get, if I get it.
Admittedly, it takes years and years to brand yourself to a level that the sheer mention of your name brings open mouthed awes. That’s the reason why Internet Marketing gurus do not preach that you start a blog depending on social traffic if you intend to make money fast. Court of Internet Marketing School wants you to learn everything about keywords so you can get traffic almost immediately. He started The Keyword Academy just for that as I think he wants to keep these thoughts away from his flagship blog as big Daddy doesn’t like it.
My buddy Grizz concurs with the idea that starting a blog and waiting for social traffic is a big waste of time. He, like all other Internet Marketers is obsessed with keywords and backlinks so he can make fast money online. The weird thing is, somehow, even writing most of the time with Search traffic in mind, he has managed to kind of brand himself and is attracting considerable social traffic to his blog. If you observe Grizz’s postings, you will see that he structures his articles for Googles rather than for his fans. Now one day if he decides to endorse a certain product. he WILL be getting lots of sales and he don’t need Googles for that. At present he only endorses Adsense.
So am I saying that we can earn money from social traffic? Yes I am. I am all for keywords and backlinks to some of my mini sites where content is minimum. In cases like that, I have no other logical choices. It is either I buy the traffic or I do what all Internet marketers do to earn money online. To be frank, I too, am obsessed with keywords and links. Imagine what you can do and achieve if you can get a good buyers keyword with thousands of searches daily but only a few hundred weak competitors.
At the same time, I am also obsessed with social traffic. Many have a misguided concept that social traffic cannot be targetted traffic. When talking about targetted traffic in the Internet Marketer’s point of view, it is traffic that comes looking for certain targetted terms that they found your blog through the Search Engines. They are only interested in that particular topic and they won’t be staying to read all your other post. They come, they see and if they fail to get what they want, they click on the Adsense Ads to get more. So Internet Marketers hates social traffic as these guys either come and go or they they find your blog interesting, stay around without clicking on anything.
On the other hand, there is another group of prospective targets which comes in the form of social traffic from social sites like facebook or twitter. These can be turned into long term followers which is perfect for bloggers. If you have a blog about Dogs, you have a potential target of thousands of dog lovers in facebook and twitter. Would it not be beneficial if you have thousands of Dog lovers loyally following your blog about dogs? If you have 1000 dog lovers coming to your blog daily without the help of Google, believing in what you write, do you think you can leverage on that? Don’t you think we can earn money online with these kind of social traffic?
